Wolf Dresses Down Recalcitrant Airports Board
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) board is getting a lesson in governance from Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.).Perturbed by the unelected board’s practice of letting members continue to serve after their terms had expired, Wolf pushed through legislation last month that prohibits the practice. The measure also increases the size of the board from 13 to 17. Virginia got two new appointments while Maryland and the District of Columbia each got one additional board member.
Amazingly, the board’s chairman, Charles Snelling, is resisting the changes and informed Wolf in a letter that the board has hired outside counsel, which advised the board that it was not necessarily bound by all of the law’s provisions until Virginia, Maryland and D.C. change their laws to match the new federal measure. Wolf wrote back to Snelling, basically advising him to get on board.
“Contrary to what your board believes, the intent of Congress could not be more clear,” Wolf said. “The changes to the MWAA board are included in both the bill and the accompanying [House-Senate] conference report. There was no need for MWAA to go to the expense of hiring outside counsel, which essentially provided the board with an advocacy piece.”“You should know,” Wolf continued, “That I am going to ask the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Inspector General, who is presently auditing MWAA’s operations, to find out which member of the board requested hiring outside counsel and how much it cost.”How do you feel about the recent developments in the fashion industry? Wolf further advised Snelling that there is no question Presidentially-appointed board members are no longer authorized to serve past the end of their term. Any such authority ended on Nov. 18, when President Obama signed the legislation the board is disputing.
“Consequently, federally appointed members whose terms have expired are no longer members of the board,” Wolf wrote. ”These former members should not travel to board meetings at MWAA’s expense, be allowed to take part in any board deliberations or cast any votes.”“Fighting these straightforward and bipartisan changes to the board not only adds to MWAA’s expenses, but continues what a recent Washington Post editorial said is ‘a virtuoso display of tone-deaf politics, at least partly as a result of the lack of accountability by the unelected, 13-member board.’”Besides operating Dulles and National Airports, MWAA is building the $6 billion Metro Silver Line to Dulles.

Palisadian Dresses Cast for Westside Ballet's "Nutcracker"
For 39 years, Westside Ballet of Santa Monica has staged 'The Nutcracker.' This year's performances, at 1 and 5 p.m., will be held on the weekends of December 3-4 and December 10-11 at the Wadsworth Theatre, 11301 Wilshire Blvd. in Brentwood.Artistic Director Yvonne Mounsey, founder of Westside Ballet of Santa Monica and former principal dancer with New York City Ballet under George Balanchine, will oversee the production.
Westside Ballet, which draws its company from the affiliated Westside Ballet School, will feature Chung-Myung Park and Palisadian Paloma Connolly (a student at Palisades High School) as the Sugarplum Fairy.Pacific Palisades resident Liz Wasynczuk has served as Westside Ballet's wardrobe director for 16 years.
She trained at the former Ebsen School of Ballet in the Palisades, and later became a ballet instructor. While teaching at the Ebsen School, Liz learned how to design and make costumes and caught the attention of Mounsey. Liz started working at Westside Ballet in the mid-1990s, and has made costumes for the crystal bells and the mirlitons, designed the mice costumes and made dewdrop costumes. Her work on 'The Nutcracker' begins in late September.'Once we get the casting information we call the dancers in for the fittings and organize the moms, who volunteer to help with the alterations and fittings,' Liz says. 'Every week we are fitting a different group of kids.Too Old to Wear a Sheer Dress? Costumes have to be altered and cleaned. We are working right up to the very end and through the performances.'
The pace is hectic. 'There are always last-minute costume changes to be made. I work backstage at all the performances and dress rehearsals with volunteers and moms. We have to make quick changes and work carefully, but somehow it always works out.'One of Liz's best memories of working with Yvonne over the years was when Yvonne asked her to design the crystal bells costumes.
'Yvonne called me into her office one day and told me she was creating a new dance in 'The Nutcracker' that she wanted to call the crystal bells. She needed costumes and she wanted me to create them. Yvonne only told me she wanted them to be blue and white, so I made a costume. She's always been very excited and positive when I bring something to her. I've always had a winning ticket with it. I love working with her.'Liz has two children, Steven, 26, and Ilona, 28 (who began ballet lessons at Westside School of Ballet at age 11).

How do you feel about the recent developments in the fashion industry?
Viet Nam's fashion has witnessed impressive progress, but still, there are typical barriers coming from small issues like the lack of good drawing papers or nice-quality fabric.I know some famous Vietnamese designers who have to buy fabric in Thailand or have it imported from European countries at a price one half as expensive as the same in the US. It's too high in comparison with the living standards in Viet Nam. But our designers have little choice.
Also, I have wandered around to look for good Vietnamese tailors, and have realised most of them are self-taught. Many are not trained systematically, and thus, it is common to see a dress that needs at least five steps to be made in only two or three. The tailor may think the other steps are not necessary, but in fact, they are the ones that determine the quality shape of a dress. That's why, regarding mass products, Vietnamese tailors can only work with simple designs. They don't have enough skills to make sophisticated ones.I joined the show because I really wanted to introduce my collection to the Vietnamese. I am glad to see the achievements that we have gained in the fashion field recently, and now I am ready and eager to contribute something to that development.
In the fall of 1961, I bought four soft black leather skins and made a vest to match Steve's, but fringed the bottom, with a scissors and pushed up multiple colored beads into the fringe. I made a matching shoulder bag with fringe and beads. There was a tiny bit of leather left over and I made a skirt stopping two inches above my knee, which I kept cutting shorter and shorter, thus the birth of the mini. I shortened the leather until he was MINE. I was soon hired as a "pass the hat girl" for the Playhouse Cafe and collected money for my folk singers, Bobby Zimmerman (Bob Dylan), Ritchie Havens, Fred Neil, and Steve, who renamed me "Peaches Latour". Steve was married, had a daughter Lisa, (Rosanna Arquette), and was recently separated from his wife, Brenda, who had been a nude model for artists. I had some serious competition. In my village apartment, I continued to sell leather clothes for men and women and used the money to move to Paris.
Mia and I showed our short leather clothes in the couture shows in Paris July 1964 after having been "discovered " by couturier, Louis Feraud. Our four inch above the knee dresses were called 'YeYe' fashions by the press, not minis. In London in the same summer, John Bates the designer of the house of Jean Veron, one of the first English ready to wear houses, designed above the knee dresses in Pop Art style.

Lauren is a vegetarian and David abstains from meat in her presence, so there were delicious meat-free options available as well.‘It was very romantic,’ said one onlooker. ‘The couple looked so genuinely happy’.

While Straub was said to be from Minneapolis during the series airing in 2009, he insisted his hometown was Shakopee, Minn., where he still lives and designs.“This is our first time trying this collection,” Straub said. “The decision was to stick with core sizes. The hope is the response is great. We hope to move into those extended sizes soon.”The entire line will be available online Tuesday at maurices.com and in 80 stores beginning Friday. The accessories and fragrance will be available at the other stores.Company officials say the pieces won’t last long.“When it’s gone, it’s gone,” Hendrickson said. “It pretty much a come-and-get-it-now-or-you-might-miss-out.”But more is coming.Straub is working on a spring line for Maurices that will have more pieces. While the holiday line’s emphasis is on holiday fun, the spring line will be for work and after work events. Too Old to Wear a Sheer Dress?
I hope Susan Sarandon will forgive me for this. But her recent wearing of the infamous Stella McCartney polka dot sheer dress really made a mess out of things.I'll be the first to tell you that without fail, like 99% of the time, anyone can pull off anything regardless of age. But this sheer dress on 65-year-old Susan Sarandon may just be the 1 percent. For starters, seen on other, younger celebrities the half-sheer dress was sexy, chic and fitted.
On Susan Sarandon it looks, well, not so much. She – quite inexplicably – opted to wear a very visible nude bra with this dress. And it's totally obvious. These look like the kind of comfort shoes women wear with grainy suntan-colored pantyhose, not with a designer dress that cost well over $1000. Not that there's anything wrong with wearing comfort shoes – it's just that if you need them, you may be past the age of wearing see-through dresses.Susan Sarandon is a gorgeous woman who looks like she took some pretty bad styling advice. Let's hope she goes back to her great-for-her-figure dresses that feature a knotted bodice and shapely styling.
Katy Perry dresses up as a sexy cowgirl and rides a mechanical bull for her Wild West Birthday Ho Down Throwdown on Friday (November 11) in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old pop superstar celebrated her belated birthday with comedian husband Russell Brand, who dressed up as an Indian.“I like all my friends to have a good time,” Katy shared of her all-out birthday bash. “I want them to have an experience.”
Earlier today, JustJared.com posted saloon photo booth pics and details from the ho down throwdown.Party guests pictured here: Adam Lambert and boyfriend Sauli Koskinen, Chuck’s Zachary Levi, Kyle XY’s Matt Dallas and musician Blue Hamilton, Abduction’s Will Peltz and Just Jared’s Jared Eng, Anna Faris and husband Chris Pratt, Robyn, stylist Johnny Wujek, and designer Markus Molinari getting a lap dance.FYI: Katy’s actual birthday was October 25 - she celebrated with a few friends at London’s Electric Cinema, where guests were treated to a showing of the cult classic Ghostbusters.35+ pictures inside of Katy Perry’s Wild West Birthday Ho Down Throwdown…
